~Onidere~

Published by lessonguy under Manga Reviews Edit This

Onidere

 Author:Yosuke Crystalna

Number of Tankobon: 4 (ongoing)

Genre: Romance, School

Publisher: Shogakukan

Summary: Tadashi is a sensitive boy who loves nothing more than knitting. Unfortunately he’s also the secret boyfriend of Saya, the leader of an all-girl gang that terrorizes his school. However, they must keep it a secret from everyone.

This manga is quite new, and i dont know all too well about it, yet. But after reading what they have, one thing is for sure. This is a great comedy romance manga. The story line is great, kinda seems over used, but still with the characters in place it brings great story.

Tadashi the main character, who’s basically a normal middle school boy, but has one secret that he’s keeping a secret from everyone, is that his girl friend is the strongest gang leader of the school. Saya, Tadashi’s secret girlfriend, does all her best to get to stay as close as possible to Tadashi and get to know more about him, but her gang members seems to be bothering them all the time. They both keep it a secret from everyone because they think that it would be wierd to see a wimpy ordinary boy with the strongest gang leader. Yuna, Mitsuki, and Momo are Saya’s best friends and her other member of the gang. They(except for Momo) dont know that Saya is going out with Tadashi. As the story progresses they all seem to be doing activities together, because of one thing… the Student president, Tomeo Kinoshita, he believes with justice he can change the heart of the gangs and make them into great citizens. But it usually fails. Alot other characters appear along the way and make the story more interesting and fun to read.

The only down side to this is the art, its not the best drawings you would see, the proportions arent drawn correctly and the characters designs arent the best, but its all good, because this is a comedy/romance manga, which fits perfectly with this kind of drawing, it adds more expression and humour to the characters.

So if you all want to have some fun and read a great action, school romance comdey manga this new series will definetly be great for you.

i just cant wait for the next chapter to come out. excite excite.

~HunterxHunter~

Published by lessonguy under Manga Reviews Edit This

 HunterxHunter

Author: Yoshihiro Togashi

Number of Tankobon: 26 (hiatus)

Genre: action, adventure, comedy, fantasy

Publisher: Shueisha

Summary: Many people in the world aspire to be hunters, for either the fame, wealth or special privileges. However, it is said that only one in hundreds of thousands can pass the test to be a qualified hunter. Gon’s journey to become such a hunter, and to find his father, who is acknowledged as the greatest hunter in the world, begins. Along the way, he befriends Killua, a member of a renowned assassin family, Kurapica, who is determined to become a Blacklist Hunter to capture the criminals responsible for his tribe’s deaths, and Lerio, who aspires to be a doctor.

HunterxHunter started in Shonen Jump in 1998, was ongoing until the author started going on hiatus, and now nobody knows if he’ll ever comeback. Yoshihiro Togashi, before HunterxHunter, was famous for creating the manga series “Yu Yu Hakusho”. About a ghost detective and fighting tournaments, great battling, awesome characters.

So one thing about Yoshihiro, is that he has really great idea’s, very creative and has great character developments and uniqueness for each set of characters. The only down thing about Yoshihiro is that he doesnt seem to be able to finish anything. For Yu Yu Hakusho, he seems like he couldnt end it well, and now with HunterxHunter he cant even come back from a hiatus, leaving the audience with a bad taste. His art style is very simple and easy too, it really shows that he became really lazy with his drawings, from the beginning to the end, the drawings are definetly better, but he gets really skimpy with it.

The first arc, when they are trying to get their Hunter licence is probably the most fun and interesting story, then after that it becomes more dark and hard core battling. And finally the arc that is keeping the author from drawing is the arc with large mutant insects that basically kill everything and is impossible to defeat.. so basically Gon and his friends are the only hope… but still Yoshihiro is not gonna finish it. sadly.

Great sence of humor, many great action, fun fantasy, and lots more are offered in HunterxHunter, its defienly a great manga to read, but after reaching the end, it makes you mad that Yoshihiro is on hiatus.

~Toriko~

Published by lessonguy under Manga Reviews Edit This

 Toriko

 Author: Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro

Number of Tankobon: 5 (on going)

Genre: Comedy, action, food

 Publisher: Shueisha

Summary: In a world where the taste and texture of food is extremely important there exist individuals known as Bishoku-ya (luxury food providers) who specialize in the acquisition of rare ingredients and animals. Toriko is one of these hunters and it is his dream to find the most precious foods in the world and create the ultimate dinner course. As one of the most skilled hunters in the world he is regularly hired by restaurants and the rich to seek out new ingredients and rare animals. A man with inhuman ability, he utilizes his incredible strength and knowledge of the animal kingdom to capture ferocious, evasive and rare beasts to further his final goal, the ultimate dinner course composed of the most delicious food in the world. He is currently accompanied by a weak and timid chef who, inspired by Toriko’s ambition, travels with him to improve his culinary skills and find rare ingredients.

Toriko started May 2008 in the shonen jump weekly magazine, at first i didnt know what this was, the first chapter was all about food and just a wierd style of drawing. I didnt get too interested from the first impression, so i just stopped in between the chapter. After couple months later, as i was really bored i happend to stop by the manga again, as i was bored and had nothing to do, i gave it a go again. After i finished the chapter i was amazed, and hungry. I was reading non stop for about 15 chapters (the latest chapter back then) and i wanted more.

This manga, about hunting for food and making your best dinner course, at first doesnt really sound appealing, but with the action of fighting and the way the author draws the characters eating the delicous looking food. This is a very fun manga.

The art style isnt the best, but its ok, because the style of the drawing really matches up with the story and the concept of the manga. The originality and creativity is probably as same as Oda Eiichiro the creator of One Piece. The food is really amazing in this manga, The Jewel Meat, Rainbow Fruit, BBCorn, etc etc, all the food mentioned in this manga really makes you hungry. The action in the manga is quite thrilling as well, as the main character uses attacks that are named after utencils like Fork, Knife.

This manga is definetly a new and great manga series that Shonen jump picked up. i also hear that they will be having a Toriko Anime as well, now thats gonna be awesome.

Anyhow, this manga is one of my faveorites to keep an eye on. So if you guys are bored and want knew action comedy manga with food. This is the one.

But the Ichiro is told of the Secret of the Imperial Theater and what he is about to go through.

Sorry about not being able to post anything yesterday. But i have some good news, Yesterday i went to Book-off in Canada. I was able to pick a new series that i havent really read before. That is Sakura Taisen. First impression for me was that the art was very clean. The plot of the series is very interesting as well. A short series, but a well constructed series.

Based off a video game, the series uses steambot type robots, unlike gundams or other “human” looking robots, this series does not use those overused robots. Its got a very simple constructions and the detail is very good.

Although the cover images are tokyopop english version of Sakura Taisen, i got the Japanese version.

A great series i think everyone will enjoy.

Sorry again for the short update and not being able to post anything yesterday.

~Yotsubato!~

Published by lessonguy under Manga Reviews Edit This

 yotsuba01.jpg

 Yotsubato!

Author: Azuma Kiyohiko

Numbers of Tankobon: 8 (ongoing)

Genres: Comedy, Slice of life

Summary: Yotsuba and her father just moved to a new town, as they were unpacking their luggage, Yotsuba walks off for a little adventure. The father then meets their neighbor who welcomes them to the neighborhood. As the neighbor asks if he’s alone, Yotsuba’s father replies that he is going to be living here with his daughter. Curiously the neighbor asks what kind of girl she is and Yotsubas father answers “a very wierd child”

Yotsubato! is created by the same person who created the manga “Azumanga Daioh”, everyones favorite school girls. The story about Yotsubato is basically a day to day event that Yotsuba and friends go through. Very comical and fun manga. its a really great manga to read, because its not one of those slap-stick comedy, its one of those comdey that only works if you’ve experienced it or that its just how life is. Azuma Kiyohiko, is a real genius to when it comes to making a slice of life comdey series. They are really great. One of my faveorite manga’s out there.

The art style is very simple yet detailed. The expressions used with the characters really are a great part of this comic. Its definitely not the super realism, but has the really fun and comical look to them. The cover page for each tonkobon is one of my faveorite part, the special cover made with special paper and the great simple coloring, probably used with watercolor.

yotsubato-1.gif  yotsubato48_19.jpg   yotsubato09044xl.jpg

Each time I read through Yotsubato, i always laught no matter how much times i read it. Its such a great manga. Yotsubato! won a award for being #1 of most read in the year 2008. And i wont be suprised, because its a really great manga, i dont know how much times i said that, but that just proves that its THAT much of a great manga.

So if you find a Yotsubato! (in english it is translated as Yotsuba&!) manga, you must purchase it. i totally recommend this.

~Angel Densetsu~

Published by lessonguy under Manga Reviews Edit This

001.jpg

Author: Norihiro Yagi

Numbers of Tankobon (volumes) : 15

Genre: Action, Comedy

Summary: Kitano Seichiro - a boy with a face of a demon, but the heart of an angel. The story begins with him attending a new school, being a new transfer student, where nobody knows him… Because of his appearance, teachers and fellow classates think of him as the worst delinquent, “violence incarnate”. They try to correct him, expel him or beat him up. Lots of accidents doesn’t help to fix the situation either, and he gains the guardian position at his school. But because of his ultra-good attitude, some of those that attack him become his friends…All the misunderstandings make the story extremely hilarious.

Angel Denstetsu is a very beautifully created manga by Norihiro Yagi. The story is as if he is writing as the characters develop themselves each chapter. This manga has almost all the great genres there needs to be in a manga; the action, comedy, romance, seriousness, alots more, which makes this manga a master piece.

The Art style is unique, almost realistic drawing, but it really has its own originality. The facial expressions made in this manga is the best out there. The comedy isnt that kind of slap stick comedy, but a more on the spot comedy which makes it alot more hilarious in my own opinion.

02.jpg            11.jpg            14.jpg

After being introduced to this manga from a friend, i was non-stop at reading this amazing manga. I probably read through 3/4 in one day. I just couldnt keep my off of this manga.  I really recommend this to anybody who love to read manga. This great action school gang fight series is by far the best school related manga i have read so far.

Also the Author of this manga, Norihiro Yagi is the creator of the popular manga, Claymore. Which was suprising for me because of the level of violence difference and character designs. Amazing manga as well.
