~Cromartie High School~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

 Cromartie High School

 Original Creator:Eiji Nonaka

Director: Hiroaki Sakurai

Production Group: Production I-G

Total Episodes: 26(run time 12 min each)

Vintage: 2003-10-02 to 2004-03-25

Summary:  Takashi Kamiyama just an ordinary student, who dislikes to fight is enrolled at Cromartie Highschool, where every single student is a delinquent. The students all decide on who’s to become the leader of their school and has a election between the students. Withought knowing anything Kamiyama was nominated as one of the candidates to run. And by default Kamiyama won the election and now he is the Toughest student in the school. Thus starts the story of Cromartie High school and the tough guys eventful day life.

I’ve known Cromartie High school for a while, but never was interested in it, mostly because of the art style and maybe the plot. But recently my friend suggested that i should watch this series, cuz its short(only 12 min each episodes, so technically it can also be 13 episodes long) and that its pretty hilarious. So i took his words and gave it a go. Suprisingly the series wasnt all that bad, especially when Mechazawa, the Robot student showed up and found out that Norio Wakamatsu was the voice actor. There are also many great characters in the series, like Freddie Mercury is one of the character, which is helariuos, also a Gorilla, which is really random, but each character has their own part in the series and make the short 12 minutes a great episode.

The Animation studio, Production I-G worked on this series. They do a really great job on making animations really well, but for this series, i’d have to say it was semi-decent. Not sure if it was because it was made in 2003, or just because the original creator wanted to keep the style like the manga, so that it can keep its natural feel. Its probably the ladder, i never really read the manga, but i would assume that the animation style is low quality, is because it makes the animation more hilarious, gets the grasp of the originality.

The Opening music “Jun” by Takuro Yoshida, really sounds so funny with the animation that is made, also the music has some kind of nostalgic feel to it, not sure when the music was made, but it is a oldie kind music. The ending song “Trust Me” by Kunio Suma was some what a really different kind a taste of music, not really sure how i can explain it, being such a weird song.

So yeah this series is an interesting one, if your really bored and want some laughs, then go and watch it. Its short and has great humor, what else you need right? So if your like me and debating whether to watch it or not, dont think, just watch it.

~Ookiku Furikabutte~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

Ookiku Furikabutte

 Original Creator: Asa Higuchi

Director: Tsutomu Mizushima

Production Group: A-1 Pictures

Total Episodes: 26

Vintage: 2007-04-12 to 2007-09-27

Summary: The series, set in Saitama, follows Ren Mihashi, who had previously excelled as his middle school baseball team’s ace pitcher, due to his grandfather’s connections as its manager. As he graduates to high school, whose baseball team his grandfather does not manage, he initially does not believe he is good enough to succeed at baseball, however, but assisted by his friends, he grows in stature, confidence and skill, helping his team excel with his own ability.

Ookiku Furikabutte is the first base ball anime i watched, it was defiently great. I never really liked the sports genre, but after watching this series i feel more open to watching more sports genre. The story for this is great, about a weakling growing up to become a more stronger person. The character development is really great too, the characters are all unique and makes the sports fun to watch. The only thing about sports series, is that they are usually really long or short. In Ookiku Furikabute’s case, its short and its kinda sad that they dont go through out the whole tournament because one match is like a million episodes long(over exaggeration) and they dont go to Koshien, i just hope that they do another sequal to this series. And i usually like to watch shorter series. Any how i really like how this series came to be.

Production A-1 picture is a pretty small production group, thats pretty new, it was founded in 2005, so its been only 4 years, and their names are going out pretty widely. Cant wait to see what other series is produced in the next couple years.

The OP for Ookiku Furikabutte “Dramatic (ドラマチック)” by Base Ball Bear  is one of my faveorite theme songs out there. i think that Base Ball bear is a really great Jpop group and i’ll definetly review them eventually. The End theme song “Medaka no Mita Niji (メダカの見た虹)” by Kozue Takada isnt that bad too, its only alittle bit slow, but not that bad still as an ending.

The series is really great, one of the best baseball series out there. So i think you all think will enjoy this series quite bit.

~School Rumble~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

 School Rumble

 Original Creator: Jin Kobayashi

Director: Shinji Takamatsu

Production Group: Studio Comet

Total Episodes: 26

Vintage:

2004-10-05 to 2005-03-29

Summary: Tsukamoto Tenma is an ordinary 2nd year high school student who has fallen in love with one of her classmates, Karasuma Ooji. However, currently she is unable to confess her feelings to him. To make things worse, she found out that Karasuma is transferring to another school in a year. On the other hand, Tenma’s other classmate, Harima Kenji (who is a delinquent) is also in love with Tenma. Not being able to confess his feelings, Harima gets depressed day by day.

Yeah, School rumble is a fun school romance comedy anime, All the characters in the series that appear have their own unique personalities, and brings great assets to the series. Tsukamoto Tenma is the heroine and is in love with one of her classmate, Karasuma Ooji. She is not very intellegent and is a bit clumsy, but is very friendly and has everyone’s respect for that. Tsukamoto Yakumo is Tenma’s younger sister, but quite the polar opposite of Tenma, a very responsible younger sister who thinks of her older sister alot. Kenji Harima, the main guy role in this series, He is also the feared school gangster, but he actually is a very good and caring person. He is in love with Tenma and is always challanging to show his love to her but always ends up failing. Mikoto Suo, Eri Sawachika, and Akira Takano are Tenma’s best friends and each are great friends with everyone as well. There are alot more fun characters in the series, but it’ll take forever to list them all and their awesome personalities. Find out yourself by watching the show.

its really great to see each episodes to see how the characters all develop and grow up througout the show.

The Animation done by Studio Coment is pretty good. They do a good job in portraying the original manga art and adapt it to the animation very well. Including the the drawing difference when the manga reached the final chapter. The animation is very clean and flawless. The color use is very normal yet it stands out more then the other school comedy animations, its more bold.

The OP Scramble (スクランブル)” by Yui Horie with UNSCANDAL is a fun song that i think was made just for the show. The animation is fun and you can see the characters personality through the OP. The ED “Onna no Ko♥Otoko no Ko (オンナのコ♥オトコのコ; Girls♥Boys)” by Yuko Ogura, is another fun song, the music is sung by Ogura Yuko a “dullminded” idol, she’s pretty funny. simple animation with fan service of the female characters. XD

So yeah kinda short review, but this is a great school comedy romance series. I think you all will enjoy watching this series. there is 3 seasons of fun. :D

~Hayate no Gotoku~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

Hayate no Gotoku

 Original Creator: Kenjirou Hata

Director: Keiiichiro Kawaguchi

Production Group: Synergy SP

Total Episodes: 52 (first season)

Vintage: 2007-04-01 to 2008-03-30

Summary:

Abandoned by his parents and given a monumentally large debt as a Christmas present, 16-year old Ayasaki Hayate is at the lowest point of his life. Desperately trying alter his hapless fate, he decides to kidnap someone to hold for a ransom. Due to an ill choice of words, the girl he tries to kidnap misunderstands the action as a confession of love. His plan is totally crushed when he gives his real name out. Realizing his wrongdoing, Hayate proceeds to rescue the girl from the yakuza, who had instead kidnapped her. The girl, as a token of thanks, offers Hayate a job as her butler. Hayate, overwhelmed by her kindness, vows to protect her even at the cost of his life.

16-year-old Hayate is really down on his luck. His unemployed parents are good-for-nothings who waste the money they have on gambling. One day, his parents have racked up a huge gambling debt that they had to sell Hayate to the yakuza for the value of his organs. In a desperate attempt to avoid that fate, Hayate decides to become a “bad guy” and kidnap someone to be held for ransom, but his efforts to do so are mistaken as a confession of love by the girl he targets.

So Hayate no Gotoku, the only plot that you can say this anime has is, Ayasaki Hayate trying to get himself free of debt that his parents left him with. This anime is definetly not for those who value story and plot most importantly in an anime, because Hayate no Gotoku, does not have such thing, it is mostly consists of comedy and random episodes. This is only fun for those who like the slice of life romance comedy kind of anime. Some may think of it as a waste of time, but others have their own opinion when viewing this anime series.

I watch this because its a great and fun series to watch, quite comical and exciting. the animation isnt all that great, but the production group does a really good job in creating the original concept art into animation.

The Characters in the show are quite diverse and Hayate no gotoku is obviously aimed for people who like maids. Hayate the main character, very dull minded, but a really reliable butler, Nagi the heroine, the tsundere rich girl. Maria the maid who takes care of nagi, who’s probably the moe and perfectionist type. Isumi a friend of Nagi and is a maiden who vanquishes evil spirits. etc etc, there are many different characters that really make this show a great view. Doesnt get boring.

The OP “Hayate no Gotoku! (ハヤテのごとく!)” by KOTOKO, is obviosly a song just made for this anime series, its a really great opening, great animation and the music fits perfectly in sync with the anime. The ED “Proof” by MELL, is a nice mellow song that has a good finish to the end of each episodes.

Hayate no Gotoku is definitely a great watch as long as your not picky about the story/plot, and have alot of free time. XD

One of the best mecha anime series ever i watched. Probably one of Sunrises best series they ever created. The character development in the series is amazing and the story is really well made. Goro Taniguchi is a really great writer, being able to write such a intense and fenominal story, he is a genius. I never felt so excited watching a series like this. So many action and excitement between the character interaction. I really think that this was a great series to watch.

Sunrise studio is the best production group that creates the best mech/robot series. The animation is really well mede, especially with all the details with all the mecha’s they create, the Gundams are really detailed and they do a fenominal job on creating their animation flawless with all the details entailed. Really a great animation production group, one of my top 5 production group.

The OP for Code Geass is really great “COLORS” by FLOWS is really awesome, the animation is really well made and the musci really works perfectly well. FLOW is one of my favorite j-rock group. The Ending song “Yuukyou Seishunka”by Ali Project, they make a really interesting genre of songs. yes they do.

Code Geass is a really great series, and intese series, i highly suggest the series for everyone to see.

~Minami-Ke~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

 Minami-Ke

 Original Creator: Coharu Sakuraba

Director: Masahiko Ohta

Production Group: Doumu

Total Episodes: 13

Vintage: 2007-10-07 to 2007-12-30

Summary: There are three of the Minami sisters: Haruka, Kana and Chiaki, who have an average life. The girls only have each other to depend on and help each other get through everything from love confessions to cooking.

Minami-ke is a great series to watch if you like to watch slice of life anime. No intense action, no slap stick humour, no serious romance. The series is very relaxed and has alot of things in common with the watchers.

Minami Haruka is the elder sister and does most of the house chores and takes great care of her other sisters. Kana is the second sister, who is not very intellegent, but is very active and a fun girl and finally is Chiaki, the youngest sister of the three. Chiaki is very smart and knowledgable, she also carries a teddy bear named Fujioka in which she uses as a throwing item to hit Kana.

Minami-ke is definetly one of my faveorite slice of life series, very mellow and is always fun to watch with the loose humour. When i watched the first season, i had a great time enjoying the interactions between the characters. So far they have 3 seasons and one OAD all together. Minami-ke, Okaeri, Okawari and the most recent addition Betsubara.

The animation studio Doumu did a great job in bringing Coharu’s characters to life, the animation is really well done and the story was really well directed. I must say, that after the first season of Minami-ke, the animation studio changed to asread and then the animation wasnt all that pleasing to watch, although they did a good job in maintaining the loose humour and story.

The OP “”Keikenchi Jōshōchū (経験値上昇中☆)” by Rina Satou, Marina Inoue & Minori Chihara, was a great song, at one point it was one of my faveorite song. great fun tune and the animation is fun to watch as well. The ED

“Colorful Days (カラフルDAYS)” by Rina Satou, Marina Inoue & Minori Chihara is another great song to listen too, although the animation was just a frame by frame scene of pictures, except the end.

If you guys have the time i suggest try watching at least the first season of it. Im sure you will all enjoy your time. Although going into watching the 2nd and 3rd season is all up to you whether you liked the first of not. So if you like the slice of life kind of anime series, this is a great start.

~K-ON!~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

 K-ON!

Original Creator: Kakifly

Director: Yamada Naoko

Production Group: Kyoto Animation

Total Episodes: 13

Vintage: 2009-04-02 to 2009-06-25

Summary: It’s Yui Hirasawa’s first year in high school, and she’s eagerly searching for a club to join. At the same time, Ritsu Tainaka, a drummer, and her friend Mio Akiyama, a bass player, are desperately trying to save the school’s light music club, which is about to be disbanded due to lack of members. They manage to recruit Tsumugi Kotobuki to play the keyboard, meaning they only need one more member to get the club running again. Yui joins, thinking it will be an easy experience for her to play the castanets, the only instrument she knows. However, the other members think their new addition is actually a guitar prodigy…

K-ON! was a new series that became one of the most popular anime series this year. Mostly because of the Moe and the cuteness of the character, because the story itself wasn’t all that amazing, but the characters really were cute and Moe. So that being said, my opinion of K-ON! was a pretty good series, i was kind of sad that it was only 13 episodes long, but that’s because they don’t have so much of the manga itself, so when more manga is released by Kakifly, then possible there will be more episodes.

K-ON! is basically a series with high school student girls wanting to play music and form a band to play gigs, all of them have experience in playing instruments except for Yui the main character, but she learns how to play the guitar. Later on they were all able to play a gig at their school festival which became a hit. other characters that appear are; the drummer Ritsu Tanaka who’s the “leader” and is the energetic character who is a childhood friend of Mio Akiyama. Mio is the bassist, also the one who became #1 moe character of the year (later dethrowned by Yui) she is definetly a character that is a must in this series. Then the rich girl who has no commoners experience, Tsumugi Kotobuki, aka Mugi, she is the keyboard player in the band and also the one who fills the members stomach with goodies. Then later on another Mio like character appears, her name is Azusa Nakano, another guitar player, more experienced then Yui, but doesnt take Yui’s position. Then there is the Adviser, her name is Sawako Yamanaka, a teacher who used to be a Death metal band leader, but now a cosplay mania teacher. Each character with their own unique personalities really ties up the story well and puts this anime to a different level with the other anime series.

Yet again Kyoto Animation really leads the animation world with its Moe and cute characters.

The songs used in this song “Cagayake! GIRLS” by Aki Toyosaki with Yoko Hikasa, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki the OP and the ED “”Don’t say ”lazy”” by Yoko Hikasa with Aki Toyosaki, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki, all became a hit song in Japan. The K-ON! album became the very 1st anime CD to top the weekly albums sold in Japan. The CD release sold 67,000 copies to debut at #1 on the latest weekly album chart.

K-ON! is definitely a fun and relaxing anime to watch, it is definitely aimed towards the otaku section, but this series will do fine with anyone watching it.

~Samurai Champloo~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

Samurai Champloo

 Director: Shinichiro Watanabe

Production Group: Fuji TV

Total Episodes: 26

Vintage: 2004-05-19 to 2004-09-09

Summary: A young woman named Fuu is working as a waitress at a tea house when she is harassed by a band of ruffians. Another customer, Mugen, walks in and offers to take care of the ruffians in exchange for food, but ends up instigating a brawl, Jin a stoic young samurai enters the tea house, while the brawl is going on. Mugen attackes Jin after realizing that Jin was a worthy opposnent, and so Mugen and Jin starts clashing swords against one another. From the brawl there was a fire that started, but that didnt stop Jin and Mugen, until they both fainted fom smoke inhalation. After they woke up, they found themselves arrested for the murder of Shibui Tomonoshina, the Magistrates son, and they are sentenced to be executed. Fuu helps both Mugen and Jin escape in exchange for becoming her body guard and travel with her to look for “the samurai who smells of sunflowers”. They both agree to join her, Fuu also makes one condition for those two: they are not to duel one another until the journey is over. This modernized hip-hop tale breaks the barriers of the common, historical, samurai anime.

Samurai Champloo was a really great series, that involved a mixture of hiphop and samurai, the music and the beat was so interestingly made by Fat-Jon and crew, made the whole series a new art form. The characters in the story were so fun to watch as well, Mugen, the animal like warrior with unique fighting style that mixes break dancing and sword fighting. Helarious at times as he looks serious. Jin the opposite of Mugen, with the traditional sword fighting style and is very skilled. The two contrasting samurai warriors are far from friends, yet their separate paths seem to cross anyways.

Samurai Champloo is probably one of the first “violent” anime series i watch, that involved slicing off necks and fingers and all that stuff. Before that i couldnt even stand watching bloody anime, but after this series that all changed, i have no problems watching those kind(even worse) of bloody series. Although at some times this series yet serious, has alot of great humor. One episode in particular was the episode called “Baseball Blues” where the main characters play americans in a game of baseball, and they do the most funniest things in the episode. its really great.

The opening song “Battlecry” by Nujabes feat. SHINGO2 incorporates the hip hop beat that really is used alot througout the series, the use of vector style, the very hiphop and old style painting mix, just a beutifully directed opening. The ending song Shiki no Uta (Song of the Seasons) by Minmi is a great song as well, another type of hip hop/ rap kinda mix, the animation in the song is simple, but it really matches with the tunes.

Samurai Champloo is a great anime series for anime viewers, although violent at some times, still a great watch. They even show this on Adult swim with the dubbed version and this is like the only series that i dont mind watching in Dubbed because they do a really great job on the voice actors. If it was other anime series that were dubbed, i would not even come close to it. So for those who love hip hop samurai action, this is the one and only series out there that would really be fitting to you.

~Fate Stay Night~

Published by lessonguy under Anime Reviews Edit This

 Fate Stay Night

 Original Concept: Kinoko Nasu (TYPE-MOON)
Original Character Design: Takashi Takeuchi

Director: Yuji Yamaguchi

Production Group: Studio DEEN

Total Episodes: 24
Vintage: 2006-01-06 to 2006-06-16

Summary: Shirou Emiya lost his parents when the whole town was on fire, he was then adopted by a sorcerer named Kiritsugu Emiya. Shirou had full admiration towards his adopted father and wanted to become a great sorceror and a ally of justice, but Shirous limited power was unfortunetly not meant for Sorceror level. But that all changes when he is drawn into the Holy Grail War. This is where he summons a “servant” called Saber in order to fight and protect him for the Holy Grail. Whoever obtains the Holy Grail, can grant one wish. There are 7 other “Servants” that will fight their way to obtaining the Grail. The Servents need to hide their real name in order to keep their weakness  safe.

Fate Stay Night, from what i know is that it was based from a pc game designed by Type-Moon. Not really sure of what kind of game it was, but must of been quite popular, due to the occasion of them developing a anime series after it. So in this series there are 7 Servants and each has their own master and special techinique. Lets entroduce them. So the first is Saber, the main heroine and her partner is Shirou Emiya, Saber is from the knight class, wielding a giant sword, later obtaining the exchalibar. Other Classes from this series is, an Archer, a Rider, Berserker, Lancer, Caster and Assasin. They all go by the nicknames of their own class. The rival of Saber is basically Archer, and other enemies they fight are very strong as well.

I did enjoy watching this series, suggested by a friend who also enjoyed this series. So i took up the chance and gave it a go. Great story line, i really liked the ending  very much, great ending. The battles through out the show is pretty intense too, the great special effects and actions. There are some humor inbetween, which is nice, and they also add in a bit of romance.

The animation studio that worked on this is Studio DEEN, its a well know studio, although i dont really know about it as much as Bones or Kyoto, but Studio DEEN makes alot of clean animation, very detailed, yet they do a very good job in keeping the details intack with the animation. Really great job on that.

Nothing really to add for the OP/ED, the OP is pretty slow and kinda mellow feel, almost like one of those OP for Clannad or AIR, the aniamtion of it i think should of been more mellowed down or chose a different song, because the animation is a lot more exciting then the theme song. The ending is about the same, alittle more slower in beat, the animation is simple too, basically has Saber standing in a field and the wind is blowing, nothing special.

Anyhow, i think that despite the OP/ED, the series itself if very good, so i’ll suggest this to those who are interested in action fantasy battles. Great ending, XD

~Lucky Star~

 Lucky Star

Original Creator: Yoshimizu Kagami

Director: Yasuhiro Takemoto

               Yutaka Yamamoto

Production Group: Kyoto Animation

Total Episodes: 24

Vintage: 2007-04-08 to 2007-09-16

Summary: Portrays the lives of several school girls attending a  high school. Their lives filled with very loose humors, and basically chill all day.  The main character is Konata Izumi, a super athlete and intellegant student, but dispite all that attribute, she doesnt join any sports club, or have good grades. The reason behind this is because she is a big Otaku, and her love for anime and video games over run her life.

Lucky star is somewhat similiar with Azumanga Daioh, both are 4-coma manga and they all have similar humor, actually Lucky Star has alot more loose humor then Azumanga which has a more comical humor. Lucky star, is very interesting and sometime alittle confusing, if your not really obsessed into anime and otaku life, there are some Otaku jokes here and there which you will not understand. They also do alot of Parodying of other anime and stuff. Others are loosly everyday situations jokes, which in times are kinda lame, but its also funny because the same thing applies to your own life. A fun series to watch with a group of other otaku or anime loving friends, then you can laugh along side with them.

Like all other school slice of life genre anime, They always have the steriotypical characters like, Sports girl, Popular girl, dumb girl… etc etc. Lucky star is alittle bit different, they added alittle more originality to the characters. Such as Konata Izumi, a very athletic and intellegent girl, but is a total dope. Tsukasa and Kagami Hiiragi, the twin, but yet both have different personalities, one is shy and the other is a tsundere. Miyuki Takara, the moe/glasses/bust/smartest all in one girl. There are other types who appear as secondary characters, but their personality is also very unique and makes the show more fun to watch.

The animation is done by Kyoto Animation, which probably makes the best moe/cute animations in Japan. The very simple drawing making the animation feel really loose, really gives a good impression with the viewers. Kyoto has made the famous Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad, K-On, and much more other series, that really has been a big hit in Japan.

In the end, Lucky star was a fun series to watch, Like Haruhi, they made a Opening song “Motteke Sailor Fuku” which basically lead alot of otaku’s to self teach themselves how to dance that exact steps and basically did it at conventions. Also another fun thing about this series is, you get to listen to many different (mostly old school) anime series sung by Konata, and sometime by the othe characters, Which is really fun. XD

So if your into the slice of life school life series this one will be a pretty good catch. I am sure you will all like it.
