~The Girl Who Leapt Through Time~

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

 Original Creator: Yasutaka Tsutsui

 Director: Mamoru Hosoda

Production Group: Madhouse Studio

Movie

Running Time: 98min

Vintage: 2006-07-15

Summary: Makoto Konno an ordinary high school girl living her ordinary life gains the ability to, literally, “leap” back in time. With the power, she imediately starts changing her life with simple changes, like getting better grades, and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realises that changing the past can really get things messy, so eventually, she will have to rely on the limited powers to shape the future of herself and her friends.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, few thats a mouh full. Is a movie directed by Mamoru Hosoda, you may know him through other movies like Digimon and Superflat Monogram. For this person was a new director, and i dont really know about him too much, but one thing i can say is that “I am a big fan” of his now, after watching TokiKake(the girl who leapt through time in japanese akronym) His animations i could recognise through the movies i watched, but never really knew who directed it.

What suprised me was that Madhouse studios worked on the Animation. I thought Production IG would of taken the job, seeing how they would do more of this kind of genre. Either way, Madhouse did a great job. The Animation done by the madhouse crew and Mamoru, is actually somewhat similiar to Kyoto Animation, sometimes the characters are very loosely drawn and makes them look out of proportion, but thats one way of showing an interesting animation. The color scheme used for this movie is beutifully done, almost like Makoto Shinkai’s artworks, the decending sun, the rippling water, the leaves of the trees, the blue sky, its amazing.  Such great visual.

Currently Mamoru Hosoda is finishing up his newest feutured film called Summer Wars, very interesting, cant wait to go see it when i go to Japan.

So the end, the movie is really well made and that everyone will enjoy watching this, whether your not a anime fan or watcher, any movie watcher would love The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

instead of OP/ED on the watching section, i’ll have the Trailers for both Tokikake and summer wars.

~Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro~

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro

Original Creator: Monkey Punch

 Director: Hayao Miyazaki

Production Group: Studio Telecom

Tokyo Movie Shinsha

Summary: The master thief, Lupin and his partner Jigen pulls off a heist in a casino, only to discover the money is counterfeit. He traces the fake bills to the small country of Cagliostro, where the evil Count is generating counterfeit money and distributing it worldwide. Lupin heads to Cagliostro with his partners in crime, a retired gangster, a modern-day samurai, and a beautiful female thief. There, they meet Princess Clarice, who is being forced into a marriage with the Count, and they also find themselves on the trail of a hidden treasure.

Lupin the III: The Castle of Cagliostro is directed by Hayao Miyazaki, this was Hayao Miyazaki’s first directed film and one of the best. The story of Lupin the III is a fenominal story that has the great thief Lupin and his partners in crime, a gunman named Jigen, The lone Samurai, Goemon, and the beutiful female theif, Fujiko. When there is a theif there always has to be a detective, detective Zenigata, one and only officer that can track down Lupin. Lupin the III was out for a very long time and its been a classical series that many people enjoys watching.

The animation for this film is really great quality for its time, when Hayao Miyazaki does his work, he does it till it looks perfect.  The flawless movement of the characters and the great actions that are involved to each scene. Color quality is really great as well, its hard to believe that it was made with traditional material.

When i first layed my eyes on this film i was really impressed, I’ve always loved Hayao Miyazaki’s fantasy films like Laputa and Nausicaa, but Lupin the III: Castle of Cogliostro is a whole different style, he character design is similiar, but the environment is alittle different and it gives you a new look to Hayaou Miyazaki’s work.

The opening and ending theme song is “Honoo no Takaramono” by Bobbi.

~5 Centimeters Per Second~

5 Centimeters Per Second

Director: Makoto Shinkai

Movie

Vintage: 2007-01-22

Running time: 62min

Production Group:  CoMix Wave Inc.

Summery:  A story about two people, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari. They both were transfer students to the same middle school, they got made fun of because of their poor health and they always stayed together which created a mutual interest in each other. They become seperate due to family situations and they both kept in touch with mail. As time goes by Takaki and Akari start to forget about each other, but Takaki then starts to remeber all the times they shared together. Takaki then tries to search for her and hopes to seeing her again. But life does not go as you wish.

5 Centimeters Per Second is composed of three short movies : ‘The Chosen Cherry Blossoms’ (Oukashou / 桜花抄), ‘Cosmonaut’ (コスモナウト) and ‘5 Centimeters per Second’ (Byousoku 5 Centimeter / 秒速5センチメートル). Each short story consist of Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari as they progress through their lives; when they are still childrens, then teenagers, then to adult.

Makoto Shinkai, the Director and Producer of this Amazing animation produced other movies and short films such as Voices of a Distant Star, She and Her Cat, and The Place Promised in our Early Days. Shinkai has been recognized as to be  “the next Miyazaki”. Althought that has a great sound to it, but while this newest project confirms the remarkable talent he displayed in his previous efforts, he has yet to show any range or variety.  All the films he has created all had to do with isolation and the longing for love, the desire to make and maintain the connections. Shinkai really does a great job when he directs movies and produces them, the styles, sound, looks may be similiar with other anime films, but Shinkai is different, he makes sure that the everything is right in spot, the timings, combination of the artworks and lines. Shinkai’s previous works, all had splendid story and they all tended to be short stories, so when making 5 Centimeters Per Second, he went applied that short story telling feel to it, but breaking up the 62 min film into a 3 part short stories. Which really worked well, due to the fact that, with the break up in between the film can tell the viewers that time has passed and is more into the future of the characters.

Like all other Makoto Shinkai films, the one thing that really stands out is the visuals. Of all the anime films  I’ve seen, nothing can match or compare to his visualworks (other than Miyazaki). Makoto Shinkai’s visual works are nearly photorealistic recreations of actual real-world settings, he displays great use of the lighting effects that enhances the mood and setting of the story. The great detailed work that sucks in the viewer as they are awed with his splendid visual pieces. His use of the vivid colors although some what glossy and dazzling to the eyes, these improvements have really affected this movie in great ways. Compared to his previous works, the animations has improved dashingly, the moving clouds, the vehicles, the snow and grass, everything basically in the movie that moves has such emotions really poured into them.

The music artist for this animation is Tenmon, who did an excellant job in setting the mood with the song “one more time, One more chance”. The great use of Piano mixed with various other instruments bringing the animation to life. For those who are very emotional may need a box of tissue, because the story and music of this movie is top notch, and can really move the heart.

5 Centimeters Per Second is definetly a master piece quality anime movie, so if you have not watched it before, then make sure you go watch it. Be blown away by his amazing visual display and have an experience of a life time.
