 K-ON!

Original Creator: Kakifly

Director: Yamada Naoko

Production Group: Kyoto Animation

Total Episodes: 13

Vintage: 2009-04-02 to 2009-06-25

Summary: It’s Yui Hirasawa’s first year in high school, and she’s eagerly searching for a club to join. At the same time, Ritsu Tainaka, a drummer, and her friend Mio Akiyama, a bass player, are desperately trying to save the school’s light music club, which is about to be disbanded due to lack of members. They manage to recruit Tsumugi Kotobuki to play the keyboard, meaning they only need one more member to get the club running again. Yui joins, thinking it will be an easy experience for her to play the castanets, the only instrument she knows. However, the other members think their new addition is actually a guitar prodigy…

K-ON! was a new series that became one of the most popular anime series this year. Mostly because of the Moe and the cuteness of the character, because the story itself wasn’t all that amazing, but the characters really were cute and Moe. So that being said, my opinion of K-ON! was a pretty good series, i was kind of sad that it was only 13 episodes long, but that’s because they don’t have so much of the manga itself, so when more manga is released by Kakifly, then possible there will be more episodes.

K-ON! is basically a series with high school student girls wanting to play music and form a band to play gigs, all of them have experience in playing instruments except for Yui the main character, but she learns how to play the guitar. Later on they were all able to play a gig at their school festival which became a hit. other characters that appear are; the drummer Ritsu Tanaka who’s the “leader” and is the energetic character who is a childhood friend of Mio Akiyama. Mio is the bassist, also the one who became #1 moe character of the year (later dethrowned by Yui) she is definetly a character that is a must in this series. Then the rich girl who has no commoners experience, Tsumugi Kotobuki, aka Mugi, she is the keyboard player in the band and also the one who fills the members stomach with goodies. Then later on another Mio like character appears, her name is Azusa Nakano, another guitar player, more experienced then Yui, but doesnt take Yui’s position. Then there is the Adviser, her name is Sawako Yamanaka, a teacher who used to be a Death metal band leader, but now a cosplay mania teacher. Each character with their own unique personalities really ties up the story well and puts this anime to a different level with the other anime series.

Yet again Kyoto Animation really leads the animation world with its Moe and cute characters.

The songs used in this song “Cagayake! GIRLS” by Aki Toyosaki with Yoko Hikasa, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki the OP and the ED “”Don’t say ”lazy”” by Yoko Hikasa with Aki Toyosaki, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki, all became a hit song in Japan. The K-ON! album became the very 1st anime CD to top the weekly albums sold in Japan. The CD release sold 67,000 copies to debut at #1 on the latest weekly album chart.

K-ON! is definitely a fun and relaxing anime to watch, it is definitely aimed towards the otaku section, but this series will do fine with anyone watching it.
