As Jin was contemplating on how to get the project back to school, the statue explodes and a girl comes out of the statue. Her name is Nagi and she is the goddess of the town, who took form in Jins image. Jin and Nagi then work together to destroy the impurities that infest the town.
Kannagi: Crazy shrine maiden is a fairly new series that got aired in 2008, probably one of the most popular series during that quarter. What more does an otaku want when theirs a cute goddess who thinks that she is a magical girl who flings around little magic wands and destroys evil. Nagi also has a sister who has a split personality, as she is imitating a nun and is a super star on tv, a very cute goddess sister. And there is of course the “osananajimi” your childhood friend. Everything in this series put a good moe onto the views. Great character development througout the series.
The animation in this series is quite like kyoto animation, the simple drawings that make the movement of the characters flow nicely. Great quality in each characters, the fun characters that come out througout the episodes. This series got a good amount of romance, its quite cute. A-1 pictures seems to be pretty close to kyoto animation in the style and quality work. The great use of the coloring, the vibrant and the hue brings out the animation to another level, compared with other series.
The opening song “motto☆Hade ni ne!” by Haruka Tomatsu, was a great upbeat song that will definely make it to the kareoke box in no time. The main charater Nagi is singing and dancing, while it shows cut scenes of her doing fun events and such. Really bring the viewers to like this show just from the theme song. The Ending theme song “Musuhi no Toki ” also by Haruka Tomatsu is a beautiful ending. The animation is very simple yet it looks really beautiful, the slow paced music added with the dark background sky and the stars rotating making rings, definetly gives you a great sense of calmness. At the end of the song, which i really liked was that they had different illustrations done by various artist, and i was happy to see that azuma kiyohiko did one of the art works.
Kannagi: Crazy shrine maiden is one series that i would suggest to those who love moe and magical girls, its a really fun series that many people would enjoy, especially otaku’s.
