Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro

Original Creator: Monkey Punch

 Director: Hayao Miyazaki

Tokyo Movie Shinsha

Summary: The master thief, Lupin and his partner Jigen pulls off a heist in a casino, only to discover the money is counterfeit. He traces the fake bills to the small country of Cagliostro, where the evil Count is generating counterfeit money and distributing it worldwide. Lupin heads to Cagliostro with his partners in crime, a retired gangster, a modern-day samurai, and a beautiful female thief. There, they meet Princess Clarice, who is being forced into a marriage with the Count, and they also find themselves on the trail of a hidden treasure.

Lupin the III: The Castle of Cagliostro is directed by Hayao Miyazaki, this was Hayao Miyazaki’s first directed film and one of the best. The story of Lupin the III is a fenominal story that has the great thief Lupin and his partners in crime, a gunman named Jigen, The lone Samurai, Goemon, and the beutiful female theif, Fujiko. When there is a theif there always has to be a detective, detective Zenigata, one and only officer that can track down Lupin. Lupin the III was out for a very long time and its been a classical series that many people enjoys watching.

The animation for this film is really great quality for its time, when Hayao Miyazaki does his work, he does it till it looks perfect.  The flawless movement of the characters and the great actions that are involved to each scene. Color quality is really great as well, its hard to believe that it was made with traditional material.

When i first layed my eyes on this film i was really impressed, I’ve always loved Hayao Miyazaki’s fantasy films like Laputa and Nausicaa, but Lupin the III: Castle of Cogliostro is a whole different style, he character design is similiar, but the environment is alittle different and it gives you a new look to Hayaou Miyazaki’s work.

The opening and ending theme song is “Honoo no Takaramono” by Bobbi.
