Summery: Sakuragi Hanamichi a junior high punk getting into fights all the time and becomes the freshman fighter, but like all high school studnets, they want romance/love, so he asks many girls out, but fails all the time, upon entering high school he meets the girl of his life, Haruko Akagi. He will do anything to capture her heart, he even joins the school basketball team that is aiming for the nationals lead by Haruko’s brother. The only thing is, that Sakuragi doesnt know how to play basketball or even knows the rules, to add another disaster for him, Haruko’s affection is being stolen by Kaede Rukawa, another freshman, but is a super rookie at basket ball.
Slam Dunk, a classic sports anime originally created as a manga by Inoue Takehiko. The anime brings a lot of excitement to the viewers. The fight scenes, the basketball tournaments, the romance(lol). Many great comedy scene that also brings so much laughter, almost hard to see that the author of Vagabond actually made this manga series.
Just remeber that this is a 1990’s animation, so the the animation itself isnt best quality, but it really matches with the manga style, the way they shade with lines instead of darker colors, the choppy animation that makes the basket ball plays quite exciting. The sketchy animation that gives you the “old” nostalgic anime feeling.
The old school songs played for the Opening “Kimi ga Suki da to Sakebitai” by BAAD, kinda rock on feeling when listening to it. The song really displays a feeling of emotion/romance to the song, although this is a sports anime, it has alittle element of romance, so this theme song adds a good touch to the show. The ending “Anata Dake Mitsumete’ru” is another song that has the same effect as the first song, gives a little vibe to the romance touch, but with a more high and up beat, which is very interesting. Really a great song. Since this series is 101 episodes, there are alot more other OP/ED, but for now i’m only gonna talk about the first ones.
If you enjoy sports, gang fights and some bits of romance here and there, this anime would be great, definetly a fun and awesome series.
