Summary: Azumanga Daioh is a story about  6 High school girls who go on about their daily activities and life itself.

Each girls with their own unique or unusual personalities:

Chiyo: The 10 years old genius.

Tomo: The energetic/hyper active one.

Sakaki: The Shy, but Cool type character. (also prone to cat bites)

 Kagura: The Sporty one.

Yomi: The Glasses girl and Diet is important girl.

Osaka (Ayumu): The group Airhead.

Azumanga Daioh, was adapted from Azuma Kiyohiko’s 4 panel gag manga. The show itself shows great sense of humor, which will hook the audience. Each of the characters have their own unique personality that really adds a plus to this series. The interactions with each of the characters bring this light hearted feeling to the viewers, with many laughter and joy. Azumanga does not have any Intense seriousness or romance type drama, but instead it is replaced by the awkward comic timings, the unique clever character orginazation, and even a few moments of the nostalgia that you feel, for those who moved  the whole high school experience.

The art/animation style done by GENCO, and J.C. Staff really did a great job in expressing each of the characters in the show. The comically drawn animation catches the viewers eyes with the intentionally choppy animation, long still shots, and repetitive motions. Definetly not a movie or an OVA type quality, but that simplistic drawing and animation, really matches the show quite well. The use of the soft and vibrant colors really brings out each of the characters personalities to the highest.

The Opening theme song “Soramimi Cake” by Oranges & Lemons starts off with a high note repeating itself over six times as each of the main characters pop out from beneith the screen. Just from this opening sequence you can tell right away of what the characters will be like even before watching the series. As the song keeps rolling, many random yet humourous scenes pop out. This song was perfectly made for AzuDai. The Ending song, “Rasberry Heaven” also by Oranges & Lemons, ends the episode with a soft and calming tune, that tells the viewers that the excitement is over and its time to go. The animation for the ending is simple yet, calming.

Azumanga Daioh became very popular both in Japan in America, soon picked up by ADV and started having U.S releses, with dubbed episodes and DVD’s.

Azumanga Daioh is a very fun and humourous anime series that is a must watch for those who like anime and probaby will be liked even by those who dont understand anime, or dont usually watch anime.
